How much can a fleet really cost?

Assessing how much a fleet vehicle will cost your organization goes a lot deeper than just looking at the sticker costs. Lifecycle costs can be summarized into two buckets―ownership costs and operations costs.

The upfront costs of purchasing a vehicle can include administrative procurement costs, such as the time to spec the vehicle, source the best options and finalize contracts. Ownership costs also include interest, inflation, disposal costs and the biggest single expense, depreciation.

The costs of operations represent about one-third of the total costs of ownership and include fuel, maintenance and incidental expenses.

  1. This was a really informative article and it has just the information I was looking for! The company I work for has been thinking about getting a fleet service vehicle. The other day in our meeting the manager said she wants everyone to do a little research about fleet services so we can help make a decision about whether or not the company should get one. I will be sure to bring this information up!
